CVE-2018-7465: An XSS issue was discovered in VirtueMart before 3.2.14.

An XSS issue was discovered in VirtueMart before 3.2.14. All the textareas in the backend of the plugin can be closed by simply adding </textarea> to the value and saving the product/config. By editing back the product/config, the editor's browser will execute everything after the </textarea>, leading to a possible XSS.

Security readout for executives and security teams

VirtueMart before 3.2.14 allowed saved backend textarea content to break out of the editor field and run script when an administrator later edited product or configuration data. Business risk is administrator browser-session compromise or unauthorized admin-side actions. Sources do not provide CVSS or confirmed active exploitation. Exposure is likely limited to Joomla/VirtueMart sites running versions before 3.2.14, especially where users can create or modify product or configuration values later reviewed by administrators. The bundle does not identify other affected products or hosted services. Prioritize remediation for revenue-generating or externally managed VirtueMart stores. This is an older issue with a named security release and public exploit reference, but no confirmed active exploitation in the supplied sources. Mitigation focus: Upgrade VirtueMart to 3.2.14 or later per the vendor security release.; Review VirtueMart release notes for any additional vendor guidance.; Restrict backend access to trusted accounts and enforce MFA..
