VMware Horizon View Agents (7.x.x before 7.5.1) contain a local information disclosure vulnerability due to insecure logging of credentials in the vmmsi.log file when an account other than the currently logged on user is specified during installation (including silent installations). Successful exploitation of this issue may allow low privileged users access to the credentials specified during the Horizon View Agent installation.

Security readout for executives and security teams

VMware Horizon View Agent 7.x before 7.5.1 could write installation credentials into vmmsi.log when a different account was supplied during setup. A low-privileged local user might read those credentials later. The main business risk is credential exposure on virtual desktop systems, not remote code execution. Exposure is limited to systems running VMware Horizon View Agent 7.x before 7.5.1 where installation used alternate account credentials. Risk is higher where low-privileged local users can access affected endpoints or shared VDI images. Treat as a credential hygiene issue with moderate urgency. Prioritize VDI images and endpoints where many users have local access, then rotate potentially exposed credentials and update the agent version. Mitigation focus: Upgrade VMware Horizon View Agent to 7.5.1 or later where applicable.; Review VMware advisory VMSA-2018-0018 for vendor-specific guidance.; Remove or protect installation logs that may contain credentials..
