On BIG-IP 13.1.0-13.1.0.7, a remote attacker using undisclosed methods against virtual servers configured with a Client SSL or Server SSL profile that has the SSL Forward Proxy feature enabled can force the Traffic Management Microkernel (tmm) to leak memory. As a result, system memory usage increases over time, which may eventually cause a decrease in performance or a system reboot due to memory exhaustion.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This is a denial-of-service risk in F5 BIG-IP 13.1.0 through 13.1.0.7. A remote attacker can cause memory leakage on affected virtual servers when SSL Forward Proxy is enabled, potentially degrading performance or forcing a reboot from memory exhaustion. Exposure appears limited to BIG-IP 13.1.0-13.1.0.7 deployments with affected modules and virtual servers configured for SSL Forward Proxy. Internet-facing SSL inspection or proxy services should be prioritized for review. Treat as a targeted operational resilience issue. Prioritize externally exposed or business-critical BIG-IP systems where SSL Forward Proxy is enabled, because memory exhaustion can impair traffic handling or reboot the appliance. Mitigation focus: Identify BIG-IP 13.1.0 through 13.1.0.7 systems.; Review F5 K20134942 for fixed software or supported workarounds.; Assess whether SSL Forward Proxy is required on exposed virtual servers..
