Security readout for executives and security teams

This is a severe Oracle Java SE flaw in the Java DB component. An unauthenticated network attacker could potentially take over an affected Java SE environment, although Oracle describes exploitation as difficult. Systems running the listed legacy Java versions should be treated as high-priority remediation targets. Exposure is most likely where affected Java SE runtimes or products embedding them expose Java DB-related APIs through network-reachable services. The source notes attacks may affect additional products, but does not enumerate all affected downstream products. Prioritize remediation on internet-facing or business-critical systems using the affected Java versions. The takeover impact is high, but the available evidence does not confirm exploitation in the wild from the supplied sources. Mitigation focus: Apply Oracle's July 2018 Critical Patch Update or later vendor guidance.; Upgrade affected Java SE 6u191, 7u181, and 8u172 deployments.; Check vendor advisories for products bundling Oracle Java SE or Java DB..
