Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-2887 lets an unauthenticated network attacker use HTTP access to Oracle MICROS Retail-J Back Office to read some data and change some records. The business risk is unauthorized retail back-office data manipulation, not system takeover or service outage based on the provided CVSS impacts. Organizations running Oracle MICROS Retail-J Back Office versions 13.0.0 or 12.1.2 reachable over HTTP are in scope. Exposure is highest where Back Office web interfaces are reachable from untrusted networks. The source bundle does not identify other versions, cloud services, or deployment patterns. Prioritize remediation for any internet-facing or partner-accessible MICROS Retail-J Back Office deployment. The issue is moderate by CVSS, but unauthenticated HTTP access and data integrity impact make exposed retail operations a near-term business risk. Mitigation focus: Review Oracle's October 2018 Critical Patch Update guidance for MICROS Retail-J.; Apply vendor-directed updates or mitigations for affected versions 13.0.0 and 12.1.2.; Restrict HTTP access to Back Office interfaces to trusted networks only..
