CVE-2018-15436: Cisco Webex Centers Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Webex Events Center, Cisco Webex Meeting Center, Cisco Webex Support Center, and Cisco Webex Training Center could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the web-based management interface of the affected service. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input by the web-based management interface of the affected service. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user of the interface to click a malicious link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected interface or access sensitive, browser-based information.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This CVE is a cross-site scripting issue in Cisco Webex Centers. An attacker would need to persuade a user of the Webex management interface to click a malicious link, potentially exposing browser-based information or running script in that interface. Exposure is most likely where organizations used the affected Cisco Webex Center services and had users accessing their web-based management interface. The supplied data does not identify specific vulnerable versions or deployment conditions. Treat as a managed, moderate web-application risk. Prioritize confirmation of affected Webex usage, vendor remediation status, and administrator awareness rather than emergency response absent exploitation evidence. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco's advisory for affected service status and vendor remediation.; Confirm Webex Center services are Cisco-supported and updated.; Warn administrators against unsolicited Webex management-interface links..
