CVE-2018-0448: Cisco Digital Network Architecture Center Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the identity management service of Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication and take complete control of identity management functions. The vulnerability is due to insufficient security restrictions for critical management functions. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a valid identity management request to the affected system. An exploit could allow the attacker to view and make unauthorized modifications to existing system users as well as create new users.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco DNA Center had an authentication bypass in its identity management service. A remote unauthenticated attacker could control identity management functions, including viewing users, modifying users, and creating new users. That can undermine trust in administrative access for a network management platform. Exposure is limited to organizations running Cisco DNA Center. Risk is highest where the DNA Center management plane or identity management service is reachable from untrusted networks. The provided sources do not name specific affected versions. Treat as urgent for any Cisco DNA Center environment, especially if reachable beyond a tightly controlled admin network. The core concern is unauthorized control over identity management for network administration. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco's advisory for affected releases and fixed software guidance.; Apply Cisco-recommended updates or workarounds if your deployment matches the advisory.; Restrict DNA Center management access to trusted administrative networks only..
