CVE-2018-0426: Cisco RV110W, RV130W, and RV215W Routers Management Interface Directory Traversal Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of the Cisco RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall, Cisco RV130W Wireless-N Multifunction VPN Router, and Cisco RV215W Wireless-N VPN Router could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information. The vulnerability is due to improper validation of directory traversal character sequences within the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malicious requests to the targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain access to arbitrary files on the affected device, resulting in the disclosure of sensitive information.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This flaw lets an unauthenticated remote attacker read arbitrary files from affected Cisco small-business routers through the web management interface. That can expose sensitive device information and aid follow-on compromise, especially where management access is reachable from untrusted networks. Exposure is most likely in organizations still running Cisco RV110W, RV130W, or RV215W routers. Risk is higher if the web management interface is exposed to the internet or broad internal networks. The source bundle does not provide affected version ranges or CPEs. Prioritize this where affected routers are internet-facing or used in sensitive networks. The issue is unauthenticated and remote, but sources do not confirm active exploitation or provide severity scoring. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco’s advisory for fixed firmware and product-specific guidance.; Restrict management interface access to trusted administrative networks only.; Remove internet exposure for affected router management interfaces..
