CVE-2018-0415: A vulnerability in the implementation of Extensible Authentication Protocol over LAN (EAPOL) functionality...

A vulnerability in the implementation of Extensible Authentication Protocol over LAN (EAPOL) functionality in Cisco Small Business 100 Series Wireless Access Points and Cisco Small Business 300 Series Wireless Access Points could allow an authenticated, adjacent attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to the improper processing of certain EAPOL frames. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a stream of crafted EAPOL frames to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to force the access point (AP) to disassociate all the associated stations (STAs) and to disallow future, new association requests. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvj97472.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This flaw can let a nearby authenticated attacker disrupt affected Cisco Small Business wireless access points. Successful abuse can disconnect all connected wireless clients and prevent new connections, causing a local Wi-Fi outage rather than data theft. Exposure is limited to organizations still using the affected Cisco Small Business 100 Series or 300 Series Wireless Access Points. The attacker must be adjacent and authenticated, so internet-wide exposure is not indicated by the source bundle. Treat this as a targeted availability risk for sites using the affected APs. It is not described as remote code execution or data compromise, but it can disrupt wireless-dependent operations and should be addressed through vendor guidance. Mitigation focus: Check Cisco's advisory for fixed firmware, workarounds, or support status.; Inventory Cisco Small Business 100 and 300 Series wireless access points.; Prioritize remediation for APs serving critical business areas..
