A vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco Policy Suite could allow an authenticated, local attacker to access files owned by another user. The vulnerability is due to insufficient access control permissions (i.e., World-Readable). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by logging in to the CLI. An exploit could allow the attacker to access potentially sensitive files that are owned by a different user. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvh18087.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-0392 affects the Cisco Policy Suite CLI. A logged-in local user could read files owned by other users because some permissions were too broad. The main business risk is exposure of sensitive operational data on affected systems, not remote takeover based on the supplied sources. Exposure appears limited to organizations running affected Cisco Policy Suite systems where untrusted or lower-privileged users can authenticate to the local CLI. Treat this as a targeted access-control exposure. Prioritize if Cisco Policy Suite is in production or shared among multiple operators; otherwise handle through normal vulnerability management after vendor guidance review. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20180718-policy-suite-data for supported fixed software or workarounds.; Restrict Cisco Policy Suite CLI access to trusted administrative users only.; Remove or disable unnecessary local CLI accounts on affected systems..
