A vulnerability in the detection engine of Cisco FireSIGHT System Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass a file policy that is configured to block the transfer of files to an affected system via FTP. The vulnerability exists because the affected software incorrectly handles FTP control connections. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a maliciously crafted FTP connection to transfer a file to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to bypass a file policy that is configured to apply the Block upload with reset action to FTP traffic. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvh70130.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This issue lets a remote unauthenticated actor bypass a Cisco FireSIGHT file policy intended to block FTP uploads with reset. The business risk is that a configured security control may fail for FTP traffic, allowing file transfer activity that administrators expected FireSIGHT to stop. Exposure is most likely where Cisco FireSIGHT is deployed to enforce file policies on FTP traffic, especially policies using the Block upload with reset action. The provided affected-version data is incomplete, so inventory must be checked against Cisco’s advisory. Prioritize review if FireSIGHT is relied on to block FTP file transfers. The issue weakens an intended prevention control, but the bundle does not show active exploitation, CVSS severity, or affected version detail. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco’s advisory for affected releases and vendor remediation guidance.; Identify FireSIGHT deployments enforcing FTP file policies.; Prioritize systems using Block upload with reset for FTP uploads..
