A vulnerability in Cisco WebEx Connect IM could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of an affected system. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of some parameters that are passed to the web server of the affected system. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to follow a malicious link or by intercepting a user request and injecting malicious code into the request. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected web interface or allow the attacker to access sensitive browser-based information. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvi07812.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-0276 is a cross-site scripting flaw in Cisco WebEx Connect IM. An attacker could trick a user into opening a malicious link, or inject code into an intercepted request, causing script to run in that user’s browser context. The public bundle does not provide CVSS scoring or confirmed active exploitation. Exposure is limited to organizations that still operate Cisco WebEx Connect IM or affected WebEx Connect IM web interfaces. The bundle does not identify specific vulnerable versions beyond the product name. Treat this as a targeted legacy-product risk. It is not proven actively exploited in the bundle, but user-facing browser compromise and sensitive browser data exposure justify prompt inventory and vendor-guided remediation. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20180418-webcon for vendor fixes or mitigations.; Inventory any Cisco WebEx Connect IM deployments or legacy web interfaces.; Prioritize remediation for internet-accessible or externally reachable interfaces..
