CVE-2018-0268: A vulnerability in the container management subsystem of Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center co...

A vulnerability in the container management subsystem of Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication and gain elevated privileges. This vulnerability is due to an insecure default configuration of the Kubernetes container management subsystem within DNA Center. An attacker who has the ability to access the Kubernetes service port could execute commands with elevated privileges within provisioned containers. A successful exploit could result in a complete compromise of affected containers. This vulnerability affects Cisco DNA Center Software Releases 1.1.3 and prior. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvi47253.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-0268 affects Cisco DNA Center releases 1.1.3 and earlier. If an attacker can reach the Kubernetes management service port, they may bypass authentication, gain elevated privileges, and compromise provisioned containers. The provided sources do not show active exploitation. Exposure is limited to Cisco DNA Center Software Release 1.1.3 and prior where the Kubernetes service port is reachable. Internet exposure is not established in the provided sources; management-network exposure should still be treated seriously. Prioritize this for any environment still running old Cisco DNA Center versions. The business risk is high if the Kubernetes service port is reachable, because successful exploitation can bypass authentication and compromise containers. Mitigation focus: Identify all Cisco DNA Center deployments and their software releases.; Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20180516-dna for fixed-release or mitigation guidance.; Restrict Kubernetes service port access to trusted management networks..
