CVE-2018-0219: A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) Director coul...

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) Director could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the web-based management interface of an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input by the web-based management interface of an affected device. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user of the interface to click a crafted link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the interface or allow the attacker to access sensitive browser-based information. Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-0219 is a cross-site scripting flaw in Cisco UCS Director’s web management interface. An attacker does not need to authenticate, but must convince an interface user to click a crafted link. Successful exploitation could run script in that user’s browser session or expose browser-based sensitive information. Exposure is limited to organizations using Cisco UCS Director and users who access its web management interface. Risk increases if administrators can be targeted through email, chat, or web links, or if the management interface is broadly reachable. Treat this as a targeted administrative-interface risk, not a broad wormable outage scenario. It deserves timely remediation where Cisco UCS Director is present because compromised admin browser context can affect sensitive management workflows. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco’s advisory for affected releases and vendor remediation guidance.; Confirm whether Cisco UCS Director is deployed in the environment.; Prioritize vendor-recommended updates or configuration changes after version confirmation..
