CVE-2018-0148: A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco UCS Director Software and Cisco Integrated M...

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco UCS Director Software and Cisco Integrated Management Controller (IMC) Supervisor Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attack and perform arbitrary actions on an affected system. The vulnerability is due to insufficient CSRF protection by the web-based management interface of the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user of the affected interface to click a malicious link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to perform arbitrary actions, via the user's web browser and with the user's privileges, on an affected system. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvf71929.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This flaw affects Cisco UCS Director and Cisco IMC Supervisor web management interfaces. An attacker could trick a logged-in administrator into clicking a malicious link, causing the admin’s browser to perform actions on the system. Business risk depends on who is logged in and what privileges they hold. Exposure is most relevant where Cisco UCS Director or Cisco IMC Supervisor management interfaces are reachable by administrators through browsers. Risk increases if privileged users access the interface from general browsing sessions or if management portals are broadly reachable. Treat this as a management-plane hardening priority, not a confirmed emergency from the provided evidence. Prioritize systems used by high-privilege administrators, especially where management access is broad or operational impact from unauthorized changes would be high. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco’s advisory for affected and fixed release guidance.; Restrict management interface access to trusted admin networks or VPN.; Separate administrator browsing from management-console sessions..
