CVE-2018-0141: A vulnerability in Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning (PCP) Software 11.6 could allow an unauthenticate...

A vulnerability in Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning (PCP) Software 11.6 could allow an unauthenticated, local attacker to log in to the underlying Linux operating system. The vulnerability is due to a hard-coded account password on the system. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by connecting to the affected system via Secure Shell (SSH) using the hard-coded credentials. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to access the underlying operating system as a low-privileged user. After low-level privileges are gained, the attacker could elevate to root privileges and take full control of the device. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvc82982.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning 11.6 contained a hard-coded system account password. A local unauthenticated attacker who can reach SSH could log in to the underlying Linux operating system, gain low privileges, and potentially escalate to root for full device control. Likely exposure is organizations running Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning 11.6 where SSH is reachable to local users or management networks. The source bundle does not identify other affected versions or products. Treat this as a high-priority management-plane risk if Cisco PCP 11.6 is present. Full device control is possible after privilege escalation, but the supplied evidence does not show known active exploitation. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20180307-cpcp for supported fixed versions or vendor workarounds.; Restrict SSH access to trusted management hosts only.; Audit Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning deployments for version 11.6 exposure..
