A vulnerability in the role-based access control (RBAC) functionality of Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to perform a privilege escalation in which one virtual domain user can view and modify another virtual domain configuration. The vulnerability is due to a failure to properly enforce RBAC for virtual domains. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending an authenticated, crafted HTTP request to a targeted application. An exploit could allow the attacker to bypass RBAC policies on the targeted system to modify a virtual domain and access resources that are not normally accessible. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvg36875.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2018-0096 is an access-control failure in Cisco Prime Infrastructure virtual domains. A logged-in remote user could cross domain boundaries and view or change another virtual domain configuration, undermining separation between administrative scopes. Exposure is most relevant where Cisco Prime Infrastructure is deployed with virtual domains and multiple administrative users or delegated teams. The bundle does not identify exact affected versions, internet exposure, or compensating controls. Treat as a priority for environments using Cisco Prime Infrastructure to delegate network administration. The issue can break tenant or team separation, but available evidence indicates authentication is required and active exploitation is not established. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20180117-cpi for fixed versions and workarounds.; Apply Cisco-recommended updates or mitigations for affected Cisco Prime Infrastructure deployments.; Restrict access to Cisco Prime Infrastructure management interfaces to trusted networks and administrators..
