CVE-2017-8414: An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices.

An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices. The binary orthrus in /sbin folder of the device handles all the UPnP connections received by the device. It seems that the binary performs a sprintf operation at address 0x0000A3E4 with the value in the command line parameter "-f" and stores it on the stack. Since there is no length check, this results in corrupting the registers for the function sub_A098 which results in memory corruption.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2017-8414 affects legacy D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 cameras. A UPnP-handling component can mishandle oversized input and corrupt memory. The sources do not provide CVSS, confirmed active exploitation, or a vendor fix, so urgency depends on whether these cameras remain deployed or reachable. Exposure appears limited to D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices, especially where UPnP-related services are reachable from user, guest, IoT, or external networks. The source bundle does not identify additional products or firmware ranges. Treat this as a legacy IoT exposure review item. Prioritize if affected cameras are internet-accessible, on flat networks, or used in sensitive facilities. If none are deployed, business urgency is low. Mitigation focus: Inventory for D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 cameras.; Check D-Link or device-owner guidance for supported firmware or retirement status.; Disable UPnP and unnecessary services where operationally possible..
