CVE-2017-8412: An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices.

An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices. The device has a custom binary called mp4ts under the /var/www/video folder. It seems that this binary dumps the HTTP VERB in the system logs. As a part of doing that it retrieves the HTTP VERB sent by the user and uses a vulnerable sprintf function at address 0x0000C3D4 in the function sub_C210 to copy the value into a string and then into a log file. Since there is no bounds check being performed on the environment variable at address 0x0000C360 this results in a stack overflow and overwrites the PC register allowing an attacker to execute buffer overflow or even a command injection attack.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2017-8412 affects D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 cameras. A web-facing video binary logs the HTTP method unsafely, allowing an oversized value to overflow the stack. Business risk is highest for legacy cameras reachable from untrusted networks. The sources do not provide CVSS, confirmed patch status, or active exploitation evidence. Exposure is limited to D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices running the vulnerable mp4ts web video component, especially if the camera web service is reachable by attackers. The bundle does not identify firmware versions or CPEs. Treat as high priority where affected cameras remain reachable. The technical impact is potentially severe, but urgency depends on asset presence, exposure, and vendor support status. Prioritize isolation or replacement for unsupported internet-facing devices. Mitigation focus: Inventory D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 cameras.; Check D-Link or device-owner guidance for firmware fixes.; Remove camera web interfaces from internet exposure..
