CVE-2017-6639: A vulnerability in the role-based access control (RBAC) functionality of Cisco Prime Data Center Network Ma...

A vulnerability in the role-based access control (RBAC) functionality of Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to access sensitive information or execute arbitrary code with root privileges on an affected system. The vulnerability is due to the lack of authentication and authorization mechanisms for a debugging tool that was inadvertently enabled in the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by remotely connecting to the debugging tool via TCP. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to access sensitive information about the affected software or execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the affected system. This vulnerability affects Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) Software Releases 10.1(1) and 10.1(2) for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Virtual Appliance platforms. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvd09961.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Prime DCNM 10.1(1) and 10.1(2) included an unintentionally enabled debugging tool without proper access controls. A remote unauthenticated attacker could connect over TCP, view sensitive information, or run code with root privileges. This is a serious management-plane risk if affected DCNM systems are reachable. Exposure is limited to organizations running Cisco Prime DCNM Software 10.1(1) or 10.1(2). Risk is highest where the DCNM host or its debugging service is reachable from untrusted networks or broad internal segments. Prioritize this as urgent where affected DCNM versions remain in production. The business concern is compromise of a data center network management system, with potential root-level control over a trusted administrative platform. Mitigation focus: Inventory Cisco Prime DCNM and identify any 10.1(1) or 10.1(2) deployments.; Review Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20170607-dcnm1 for official fixed releases or workarounds.; Restrict network access to DCNM management services to trusted administration networks..
