CVE-2017-6316: Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN devices through v9.1.2.26.561201 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell...

Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN devices through v9.1.2.26.561201 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands as root via a CGISESSID cookie. On CloudBridge (the former name of NetScaler SD-WAN) devices, the cookie name was CAKEPHP rather than CGISESSID.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This flaw lets an unauthenticated remote attacker run operating-system commands as root on affected Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN or former CloudBridge devices. A compromised appliance can expose traffic, credentials, routing decisions, and business connectivity. CISA KEV listing means confirmed exploitation has occurred. Exposure is most likely where Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN or CloudBridge management interfaces are reachable from untrusted networks and versions are through v9.1.2.26.561201. The source bundle does not provide complete CPE data or a fixed-version matrix. Treat this as urgent for any exposed or unverified appliance. The issue enables full device compromise without credentials, has public exploit references, and is in CISA KEV. Prioritize inventory, exposure reduction, and vendor-guided remediation before routine vulnerability work. Mitigation focus: Inventory all Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN and CloudBridge appliances.; Check Citrix CTX225990 for supported fixed versions or vendor-directed mitigations.; Remove management interfaces from internet exposure where possible..
