CVE-2017-5536: TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer manager component vulnerable to cross-site scripting attacks

The GridServer Broker, and GridServer Director components of TIBCO Software Inc. TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager contain vulnerabilities which may allow an authenticated user to perform cross-site scripting (XSS). In addition, an authenticated user could be a victim of a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attack. Affected releases include TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager: versions up to and including 5.1.3; 6.0.0; 6.0.1; 6.0.2; 6.1.0; 6.1.1; and 6.2.0.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2017-5536 affects TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager. Authenticated users could trigger cross-site scripting, and authenticated users could also be targeted by cross-site request forgery. The main business risk is compromise of sensitive manager-session data or unauthorized actions through a trusted user session.

Executive priority

Treat as a moderate-priority enterprise application issue. It is not cited as actively exploited in the provided sources, but affected management interfaces can expose sensitive operations and should be remediated through vendor guidance.

Technical view

The issue is in GridServer Broker and GridServer Director components of TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager. Affected versions include releases through 5.1.3 and 6.0.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1.0, 6.1.1, and 6.2.0. CVSS v3.0 is 6.3 with network access, low complexity, low privileges, and required user interaction.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running the affected TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager versions, especially where authenticated users can access Broker or Director management interfaces.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Exploitation requires an authenticated context and user interaction, but the CVSS vector indicates potentially high confidentiality impact if successful.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE record and TIBCO advisory reference. The sources identify XSS and CSRF conditions but do not provide implementation details, exploit examples, or specific fixed versions in the supplied bundle.

Mitigation direction

  • Inventory TIBCO DataSynapse GridServer Manager deployments and versions.
  • Review the TIBCO advisory for vendor-supported fixed versions or mitigations.
  • Prioritize remediation for internet-accessible or broadly accessible manager interfaces.
  • Restrict manager access to trusted administrators and networks where feasible.
  • Monitor manager activity for unusual authenticated requests or session anomalies.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether Broker or Director components are deployed.
  • Compare installed versions against the affected release list.
  • Check whether manager interfaces are reachable beyond intended administrative users.
  • Review vendor advisory details before closing remediation tickets.
  • Verify compensating access controls remain enforced after remediation.
