A vulnerability in the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) scanner of Cisco AsyncOS Software for Cisco Email Security Appliances (ESA) and Web Security Appliances (WSA) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass configured user filters on the device. Affected Products: This vulnerability affects all releases prior to the first fixed release of Cisco AsyncOS Software for Cisco ESA and Cisco WSA, both virtual and hardware appliances, that are configured with message or content filters to scan incoming email attachments on the ESA or services scanning content of web access on the WSA. More Information: SCvb91473, CSCvc76500. Known Affected Releases: 10.0.0-203 9.9.9-894 WSA10.0.0-233.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco ESA and WSA appliances running vulnerable AsyncOS could fail to enforce configured attachment or web-content filters. An unauthenticated remote attacker may bypass those filters, reducing the protection organizations expect from email and web gateways. Exposure is limited to Cisco ESA or WSA deployments using affected AsyncOS releases and configured filtering features. Organizations without these appliances, or without the relevant filters enabled, are not indicated as affected by the supplied sources. Treat as a prioritized gateway hardening issue, especially where Cisco ESA or WSA is a primary malware or content-control layer. Urgency is lower than confirmed exploited RCE, but delayed remediation weakens perimeter filtering. Mitigation focus: Check Cisco’s advisory for the applicable first fixed AsyncOS release.; Upgrade affected ESA and WSA appliances per Cisco guidance.; Inventory virtual and hardware ESA/WSA appliances running AsyncOS..
