A vulnerability in the web-based GUI of Cisco Prime Home could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication and execute actions with administrator privileges. The vulnerability is due to a processing error in the role-based access control (RBAC) of URLs. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending API commands via HTTP to a particular URL without prior authentication. An exploit could allow the attacker to perform any actions in Cisco Prime Home with administrator privileges. This vulnerability affects Cisco Prime Home versions from 6.3.0.0 to the first fixed release 6.5.0.1. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvb49837.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Prime Home had an authentication bypass in its web GUI. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could act with administrator privileges if they reached the affected interface. For affected deployments, this is business-critical because it could allow full administrative control of the platform. Exposure is limited to Cisco Prime Home deployments running affected 6.3.0.0-era versions that have not been updated to fixed release 6.5.0.1. Internet-reachable or broadly reachable administrative interfaces carry the highest operational risk. Treat this as urgent for any remaining Cisco Prime Home deployment. The vulnerability allows remote administrator-level actions without authentication, and Cisco provided updates with no workaround. Mitigation focus: Upgrade Cisco Prime Home to fixed release 6.5.0.1 or later per Cisco guidance.; Confirm no workaround is relied upon; Cisco states none address this vulnerability.; Restrict network access to Cisco Prime Home administrative interfaces while upgrades are scheduled..
