IBM Connections 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 could allow a remote attacker to conduct phishing attacks, using an open redirect attack. By persuading a victim to visit a specially-crafted Web site, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to spoof the URL displayed to redirect a user to a malicious Web site that would appear to be trusted. This could allow the attacker to obtain highly sensitive information or conduct further attacks against the victim. IBM X-Force ID: 135521.

Security readout for executives and security teams

IBM Connections 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 contain an open redirect issue. An attacker could make a trusted Connections URL send a user to a malicious site, supporting phishing or follow-on attacks. This is not a direct system takeover issue, but it can affect credential safety and user trust. Exposure is limited to organizations running IBM Connections 5.0, 5.5, or 6.0, especially internet-facing or partner-facing deployments where trusted links are used in email, SSO, or collaboration workflows. Treat this as a moderate-priority phishing enabler. It should be fixed during normal vulnerability remediation, faster if Connections is externally exposed or used for identity-sensitive collaboration workflows. Mitigation focus: Review IBM advisory SWG22016698 for the official fix or workaround.; Prioritize remediation for internet-facing IBM Connections deployments.; Reduce trust in unsolicited Connections links until remediation is confirmed..
