An unauthenticated, remote attacker has to control the peer device and craft the Signalling Connection Control Part (SCCP) messages to the target devices. Due to insufficient input validation of some values in the messages, successful exploit will cause out-of-bounds read and some services abnormal.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This CVE affects specific Huawei videoconferencing endpoints. A remote unauthenticated attacker who can act as or control a peer device may send malformed SCCP signaling messages, causing abnormal service behavior. The likely business impact is service disruption rather than confirmed data compromise, based on the source bundle.

Executive priority

Prioritize validation for environments that still rely on these Huawei conferencing endpoints. The issue is remotely triggerable but requires a controlled peer device, and the source bundle supports disruption of services, not confirmed compromise or active exploitation.

Technical view

CVE-2017-17316 is an out-of-bounds read caused by insufficient validation of values in SCCP messages on listed Huawei DP300, RP200, TE30, TE40, TE50, and TE60 versions. Successful exploitation can make some services abnormal. No CVSS score or CWE is provided in the bundle.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations operating the listed Huawei DP300, RP200, TE30, TE40, TE50, or TE60 versions where peer-device SCCP signaling can reach the target. Systems isolated from untrusted peers have lower practical exposure.

Exploitation context

The bundle does not show active exploitation, and KEV is false. Exploitation requires remote unauthenticated access in the form of controlling the peer device and sending crafted SCCP messages to the target device.

Researcher notes

Evidence is sparse: no CVSS, CWE, exploit status, or detailed remediation text is included in the bundle. Treat this as a protocol-message input-validation flaw and avoid assuming broader product impact beyond the listed Huawei models and versions.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify whether listed Huawei endpoint models and versions are deployed.
  • Review Huawei PSIRT advisory for vendor-supported updates or mitigations.
  • Restrict SCCP signaling paths to trusted peer devices only.
  • Monitor affected devices for abnormal service behavior.
  • Retire or isolate unsupported affected devices.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Huawei DP300, RP200, TE30, TE40, TE50, and TE60 endpoints.
  • Compare firmware versions against the CVE affected-version list.
  • Confirm whether SCCP signaling is reachable from untrusted peers.
  • Review logs and service health for unexplained abnormal behavior.
  • Document vendor guidance applied for each affected device.
