CVE-2017-14153: This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on Jungo WinDriver 12.4.0 and earlier.

This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on Jungo WinDriver 12.4.0 and earlier. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the processing of IOCTL 0x953824b7 by the windrvr1240 kernel driver. The issue lies in the failure to properly validate user-supplied data which can result in a kernel pool overflow. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code under the context of kernel.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2017-14153 is a local privilege escalation issue in Jungo WinDriver 12.4.0 and earlier. A person who can already run low-privileged code on an affected Windows system may be able to gain kernel-level control. The source bundle does not provide a vendor patch status. Exposure is most likely on Windows systems that have Jungo WinDriver, DriverWizard, or software/hardware packages bundling windrvr1240 version 12.4.0 or earlier. The source bundle’s structured affected-product metadata is incomplete. Treat this as a high-priority local privilege escalation risk where the driver is deployed. It is most urgent on systems exposed to untrusted local users or where compromise would grant broad operational access. Mitigation focus: Identify systems with Jungo WinDriver or windrvr1240 installed.; Check Jungo or product-vendor guidance for fixed driver versions.; Remove or disable the vulnerable driver where it is not required..
