A vulnerability in the web functionality of the Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to hijack another user's administrative session, aka a Session Fixation Vulnerability. The vulnerability is due to the reuse of a preauthentication session token as part of the postauthentication session. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by obtaining the presession token ID. An exploit could allow an attacker to hijack an existing user's session. Known Affected Releases 4.2(5). Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvf58392.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution has a session handling flaw that could let an authenticated remote attacker take over another user’s administrative web session. This matters most where legacy Cisco Prime LMS is still used for network management. Exposure is most likely in environments running Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution release 4.2(5), especially where the web interface is reachable beyond tightly controlled administrator networks. Prioritize remediation if Cisco Prime LMS manages production network infrastructure. This is not evidenced as actively exploited in the bundle, but administrative session hijacking can create meaningful operational risk. Mitigation focus: Check Cisco advisory and bug CSCvf58392 for vendor-fixed release guidance.; Upgrade or retire affected Cisco Prime LMS instances according to Cisco guidance.; Restrict access to the Cisco Prime LMS web interface to trusted admin networks..
