CVE-2017-12214: A vulnerability in the Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAMP) credential reset fu...

A vulnerability in the Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAMP) credential reset functionality for Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal (CVP) could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to gain elevated privileges. The vulnerability is due to a lack of proper input validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by authenticating to the OAMP and sending a crafted HTTP request. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain administrator privileges. The attacker must successfully authenticate to the system to exploit this vulnerability. This vulnerability affects Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal (CVP) running software release 10.5, 11.0, or 11.5. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCve92752.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal has a flaw in its OAMP credential reset feature that can let a logged-in remote user become an administrator. This matters where CVP supports contact-center voice services because compromised admin access could affect service integrity and operations. Exposure is limited to organizations running Cisco Unified CVP 10.5, 11.0, or 11.5 with OAMP reachable by authenticated users. Internet exposure is not stated in the sources; validate management-plane access paths directly. Treat as high priority for affected contact-center platforms because it can turn valid lower-level access into administrator control. Urgency is strongest where OAMP is broadly reachable or shared administrative accounts exist. Mitigation focus: Check Cisco advisory cisco-sa-20170920-cvp for fixed software or vendor workarounds.; Prioritize remediation for CVP 10.5, 11.0, and 11.5 deployments.; Restrict OAMP access to authorized administrators and trusted management networks..
