CVE-2017-1000363: Linux drivers/char/lp.c Out-of-Bounds Write.

Linux drivers/char/lp.c Out-of-Bounds Write. Due to a missing bounds check, and the fact that parport_ptr integer is static, a 'secure boot' kernel command line adversary (can happen due to bootloader vulns, e.g. Google Nexus 6's CVE-2016-10277, where due to a vulnerability the adversary has partial control over the command line) can overflow the parport_nr array in the following code, by appending many (>LP_NO) 'lp=none' arguments to the command line.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This CVE is a Linux kernel memory-corruption issue in the parallel printer driver command-line handling. It matters mainly where an attacker can influence the kernel boot command line, such as through a separate bootloader flaw. The provided sources do not show broad remote exposure or active exploitation. Exposure appears narrow. Relevant systems are Linux kernels containing the vulnerable lp.c behavior where the lp driver path is present and an attacker can influence boot parameters. The bundle does not identify affected kernel versions or products beyond Linux and Debian advisory coverage. Treat this as a targeted platform-hardening issue, not an internet-wide emergency. Prioritize systems where boot integrity matters, especially appliances, mobile-derived devices, kiosks, and servers with weaker physical or bootloader controls. Mitigation focus: Review vendor kernel advisories for affected versions and fixed packages.; Apply relevant Linux distribution kernel updates, including Debian guidance where applicable.; Limit attacker control over bootloader and kernel command-line parameters..
