CVE-2016-5740: An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.2-rev5.

An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.2-rev5. JavaScript code can be used as part of ical attachments within scheduling E-Mails. This content, for example an appointment's location, will be presented to the user at the E-Mail App, depending on the invitation workflow. This code gets executed within the context of the user's current session. Malicious script code can be executed within a user's context. This can lead to session hijacking or triggering unwanted actions via the web interface (sending mail, deleting data etc.).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.2-rev5 could run malicious JavaScript embedded in calendar invitation attachments. If a user viewed the affected scheduling email workflow, the script could act as that user in the web session. Organizations are exposed if they run Open-Xchange OX App Suite versions before 7.8.2-rev5 and use the Email App scheduling invitation workflow with iCal attachments. Treat this as high priority for any legacy Open-Xchange deployment because user interaction could lead to account misuse through an authenticated web session. Mitigation focus: Upgrade Open-Xchange OX App Suite to 7.8.2-rev5 or later.; Review the 2016-09-13 Open-Xchange advisory for vendor-specific guidance.; Reduce exposure to untrusted calendar invitations where upgrade is delayed..
