CVE-2016-4045: An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.1-rev11.

An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.1-rev11. Script code can be embedded to RSS feeds using a URL notation. In case a user clicks the corresponding link at the RSS reader of App Suite, code gets executed at the context of the user. Malicious script code can be executed within a user's context. This can lead to session hijacking or triggering unwanted actions via the web interface (sending mail, deleting data etc.). The attacker needs to reside within the same context to make this attack work.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2016-4045 is a cross-site scripting issue in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.1-rev11. A malicious RSS feed link can run script in a user's web session if clicked, potentially hijacking sessions or performing actions such as sending mail or deleting data. Exposure is most likely in Open-Xchange OX App Suite deployments before 7.8.1-rev11 where users can access the App Suite RSS reader and interact with attacker-controlled or shared RSS feed content. Prioritize remediation for affected App Suite environments because the issue can abuse user sessions, mail, and data actions. Urgency is moderated by required user interaction and same-context attacker positioning. Mitigation focus: Upgrade Open-Xchange OX App Suite to 7.8.1-rev11 or later, if applicable.; Review Open-Xchange advisory guidance before changing compensating controls.; Restrict or monitor RSS reader use until affected systems are upgraded..
