CVE-2016-4026: An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.1-rev11.

An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX App Suite before 7.8.1-rev11. The content sanitizer component has an issue with filtering malicious content in case invalid HTML code is provided. In such cases the filter will output a unsanitized representation of the content. Malicious script code can be executed within a user's context. This can lead to session hijacking or triggering unwanted actions via the web interface (sending mail, deleting data etc.). Attackers can use this issue for filter evasion to inject script code later on.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Open-Xchange OX App Suite had a sanitizer flaw before 7.8.1-rev11. Malformed HTML could bypass filtering and let script run as the victim user. That could expose sessions or trigger webmail actions such as sending mail or deleting data. Exposure is likely limited to Open-Xchange OX App Suite deployments before 7.8.1-rev11 that process or render user-supplied HTML through the affected sanitizer. Prioritize remediation if OX App Suite is internet-facing or handles sensitive mail. The main business risk is account misuse through victim-browser script execution, though public exploit activity is not evidenced here. Mitigation focus: Inventory OX App Suite deployments and identify versions before 7.8.1-rev11.; Upgrade affected systems to 7.8.1-rev11 or later, following Open-Xchange guidance.; Review vendor advisory for supported branches, backports, and any compensating controls..
