Security readout for executives and security teams

Pidgin 2.10.11 has a memory corruption flaw in its MXIT protocol handling. A malicious MXIT server response can trigger a one-byte out-of-bounds write. Business exposure is mainly for endpoints still using this older Pidgin release and MXIT connectivity. Likely limited to systems running Pidgin 2.10.11 with MXIT protocol support enabled or in use. Organizations without Pidgin, without this version, or without MXIT usage are unlikely to be exposed based on the provided evidence. Treat as a targeted legacy-client exposure. It is not KEV-listed and has no supplied CVSS score, but memory corruption in messaging software warrants cleanup where affected Pidgin clients remain deployed. Mitigation focus: Inventory endpoints for Pidgin 2.10.11 installations.; Review Pidgin, Debian, Ubuntu, and Gentoo advisories for fixed packages.; Update Pidgin using trusted vendor or distribution packages..
