gdm/guest-session-cleanup.sh in gdm-guest-session 0.24 and earlier, as used in Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS, 10.10, and 11.04, allows local users to delete arbitrary files via a space in the name of a file in /tmp. Security readout for executives and security teams

This is a legacy Ubuntu guest-session flaw. A local user could abuse filename handling in /tmp to make the guest session cleanup script delete files it should not. The issue matters mainly where old Ubuntu releases or old gdm-guest-session packages remain in use. Exposure is most likely on legacy Ubuntu desktop or terminal systems with gdm-guest-session 0.24 or earlier and guest sessions enabled. The source bundle does not identify supported modern products, CPEs, or non-Ubuntu affected platforms. Treat as a legacy hygiene issue unless affected guest-session systems still exist. Prioritize remediation where shared desktops, labs, kiosks, or multi-user Linux systems run old Ubuntu releases. Mitigation focus: Inventory legacy Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, and 11.04 systems.; Check Ubuntu USN-1399-1 and vendor package guidance.; Update or remove vulnerable gdm-guest-session packages where present..
