Buffer overflow in the Lotus Freelance Graphics PRZ file viewer in Autonomy KeyView, as used in Symantec Mail Security (SMS) 6.x through 8.x, Symantec Brightmail and Messaging Gateway before 9.5.1, and Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) before 10.5.3 and 11.x before 11.1, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted .prz file. NOTE: this may overlap CVE-2011-1217.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This is an old file-parsing flaw in Autonomy KeyView used inside several Symantec security products. A crafted Lotus Freelance Graphics .prz file could crash the product and may allow code execution. The business concern is highest where legacy Symantec mail, messaging, or DLP systems still inspect untrusted attachments. Exposure is likely limited to organizations still running the named legacy Symantec products or embedded Autonomy KeyView components that process inbound files. Internet-facing mail gateways and DLP inspection paths would be the priority to check. Treat as high priority if any named legacy Symantec gateway or DLP product remains in production. If the products are retired or fully upgraded, priority drops to documentation and asset-record cleanup. Mitigation focus: Inventory Symantec Mail Security, Brightmail/Messaging Gateway, and DLP deployments.; Update Brightmail/Messaging Gateway to 9.5.1 or later where applicable.; Update Symantec DLP to 10.5.3, 11.1, or later where applicable..
