CVE-2007-1540: Directory traversal vulnerability in am.pl in (1) SQL-Ledger 2.6.27 and earlier, and (2) LedgerSMB before 1...

Directory traversal vulnerability in am.pl in (1) SQL-Ledger 2.6.27 and earlier, and (2) LedgerSMB before 1.2.0, allows remote attackers to run arbitrary executables and bypass authentication via a .. (dot dot) sequence and trailing NULL (%00) in the login parameter. NOTE: this issue was reportedly addressed in SQL-Ledger 2.6.27, however third-party researchers claim that the file is still executed even though an error is generated.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This flaw affects old SQL-Ledger and LedgerSMB accounting web applications. A remote unauthenticated attacker could abuse login handling to make the server run unintended executables. For businesses still running these legacy systems, exposure is serious because accounting systems often hold sensitive financial and customer data. Likely exposure is limited to legacy SQL-Ledger 2.6.27 or earlier and LedgerSMB versions before 1.2.0, especially CGI deployments reachable over the network. The structured affected-product metadata is incomplete, so inventories should verify product and version directly. Prioritize remediation if any affected instance is internet-facing or supports finance operations. The business impact is potentially severe, but urgency depends on whether these old versions remain deployed and reachable. Mitigation focus: Identify all SQL-Ledger and LedgerSMB instances and record exact versions.; Upgrade LedgerSMB to 1.2.0 or later where applicable.; Check current SQL-Ledger vendor guidance because 2.6.27 fix status is disputed..
