CVE-2006-5626: Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in cms_images/js/htmlarea/htmlarea.php in phpFaber Content Managem...

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in cms_images/js/htmlarea/htmlarea.php in phpFaber Content Management System (CMS) before 1.3.36 on 20061026 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML, probably via arbitrary parameters in the query string, as demonstrated with a vigilon parameter. NOTE: earlier downloads of 1.3.36 have the vulnerability; the software was updated without changing the version number.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This is an old cross-site scripting issue in phpFaber CMS. A vulnerable editor helper file could let a remote attacker inject script or HTML into a victim’s browser. The main business risk is compromise of user sessions or misleading page content on affected legacy sites. Exposure is likely limited to legacy phpFaber CMS deployments with the htmlarea.php component reachable, especially versions before the corrected 1.3.36 package or early 1.3.36 downloads. Low to moderate urgency for most organizations, but higher if a legacy phpFaber CMS site is internet-facing or handles authenticated users. The key task is confirming whether this obsolete software exists anywhere. Mitigation focus: Identify whether phpFaber CMS is still deployed on public or internal web properties.; Verify the installed package is not an early vulnerable 1.3.36 download.; Check vendor or archived project guidance for the corrected package..
