Security readout for executives and security teams

A very old web script called MultiHTML has a flaw that lets an outside attacker read files from the web server and, in some cases, run commands on it. The attack works by tricking the script's "multi" parameter into pointing at server files instead of the intended content. If this script is still deployed anywhere, an unauthenticated visitor could pull sensitive data or gain a foothold on the host. Extremely low in modern environments. MultiHTML is a legacy CGI script from circa 2000 that is unlikely to appear on maintained infrastructure. Residual risk exists only on unmaintained legacy hosts, archival web servers, or forgotten cgi-bin deployments still exposing the script to the internet or internal networks. Low priority for most organizations because the affected script is a legacy artifact from 2000 that is unlikely to be in production. Elevate to high priority only if asset inventory or scanning identifies a live MultiHTML deployment, in which case removal should be immediate. Mitigation focus: Remove the MultiHTML CGI script from any web server where it is still deployed.; Restrict or disable cgi-bin execution on legacy hosts that no longer need it.; Block external access to legacy CGI paths at the WAF or reverse proxy..
