WorldClient email client in MDaemon 2.8 includes the session ID in the referer field of an HTTP request when the user clicks on a URL, which allows the visited web site to hijack the session ID and read the user's email.

Security readout for executives and security teams

MDaemon's WorldClient webmail (version 2.8) leaks a user's login session identifier to any outside website that a user clicks through to from their inbox. A remote site that receives that identifier can impersonate the user and read their mail. This is an old, product-specific webmail flaw with no modern exposure for organizations that are not still running MDaemon 2.8. Effectively none in modern environments. Alt-N MDaemon 2.8 shipped around 2000 and has been superseded by many major releases. Exposure is limited to legacy systems still running that specific WorldClient build reachable by authenticated users who click outbound links. Very low priority for modern estates. Only material if the business still operates MDaemon 2.8 WorldClient; in that case treat it as an accelerated legacy-decommission item rather than an emergency patch cycle. Mitigation focus: Retire or upgrade any Alt-N MDaemon 2.8 WorldClient installations to a currently supported MDaemon release.; Consult current MDaemon Technologies vendor guidance for session handling and web client updates.; Restrict legacy webmail access behind VPN or IP allow-listing until decommissioned..
